Laupāhoehoe, Hawai‘i
The Kihalani weather station is a cooperative station of the National Climatic Data Center, NOAA Satellite and Information Service. The station is located at an elevation of 990 feet (274 m) above sea level and was first placed in operation in 1998. Full year data is only available from 2002-2007. Precipitation is the only data available from the station.
Average annual precipitation for the site is 135 inches (3,428 mm). Metadata for the station and data records can be downloaded from the NCDC website listed above. We have made summary graphs, raw data, and other materials available for download below.
The first graph shows the total annual precipitation for Kihalani station from 2002-2007. Rainfall is much less variable than at higher elevations. Rainfall has not fallen under 100 inches (2,500 mm) per year during the recording period. The second graph shows the average monthly rainfall for the same period. The summer dry season is much less pronounced than at higher elevations.
The downloadable file below contains copies of the graphs, the raw NCDC data files, metadata for the station, and some summary data we have prepared.
